Sewist Quarantine Challenge - 10 Creative Sewing Ideas

I think we can all agree that nothing throws a wrench in your drive and creativity like a global pandemic.

A year ago I would have laughed at that ridiculous statement but here we are living it in 2020. For those of us who are in a creative field, specifically in the entertainment industry, most of our projects have come to a halt. Gathered events have been postponed or cancelled completely and the same can be said for many of our contracts.

I’m not going to sugar coat it. Times are tough.

But that doesn’t mean our lives have to completely come to a halt as well. I definitely took my time and spent a few days sulking instead of sewing. I needed something to give some creative purpose while I was confined to my home.

That’s how the Sewist Quarantine Challenge was born.

I tried to create a challenge that was inclusive to all sewing levels and allowed people to sew things that they loved while still following the prompt. There are 10 days worth of prompts, each giving you the opportunity to decide on a project that follows the theme for the day.

I felt it was important to start this challenge with a not so fun but definitely necessary task: cleaning your sewing space. We dread it and avoid it but a clean (cleaner) space makes it easier to be creative. It is also a great way to get an idea of all the materials you have. I know that when I’m going through my materials it sparks ideas of how I might want to use it in a future project!

Don’t stress about getting ten projects done in ten days. This challenge is meant to give you ten projects to space out however you need. We all know some projects are not a one day sew!

Day 6 - Something For Your Pet: I made a new leash for my pup!

Need some ideas? Here is what I planned for my own projects:

Day 2 - Reattached tassels to a blouse

Day 4 - Reusable Makeup Remover Pads

Day 6 - A dog leash

Day 7 - Reupholster my office chairs

Day 8 - Embroider a collar on a jean jacket

Day 10 - A lounge set for myself

So if you are ready to add some creativity into your life then go ahead and start sewing!

When you post your amazing projects on Instagram use the hashtag #sewistquarantinechallenge and checkout the other awesome projects people have created. Tag me in your caption and I’ll share it on my stories! I love seeing what others are sewing!
